Every approved training organisation has nominated postholders: the accountable manager, the head of training, the safety manager, the compliance monitoring manager. At an audit, the CAA asks who holds each post, who deputises, and by what authority. FlyerOS keeps that answer as data, not as a document that goes out of date the day someone leaves.
Appointments, not job titles
A postholder appointment is a person placed in a nominated role, with the date it took effect. It is separate from their day to day permissions in the system: a person can hold the post of safety manager as an appointment and also hold whatever access their work needs. Keeping the two apart means the org chart reflects who is accountable, which is not always the same as who can click what.
Deputies
Each post can name a deputy, so cover is explicit rather than assumed. When the head of training is away, the record already says who stands in, which is the question that matters when something happens and the postholder is not there.
The authority reference
An appointment carries its authority reference: the approval that makes the nomination official. That is the line an auditor follows, so having it attached to the appointment turns a question into a lookup.
Always current
Because appointments are dated records, the postholder list is the current one by construction. When an appointment ends and another begins, the history stays, so you can show not just who holds a post today but who held it at any date an auditor asks about.
